The memorial plaque for the prisoners from Azerbaijan was inaugurated at the Dachau concentration camp memorial site

On May 7, a memorial plaque was unveiled at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site for the prisoners from Azerbaijan who were held there during World War II. The memorial plaque, erected on the initiative and support of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Germany, was made in Azerbaijani and German and placed in the memorial hall of the Memorial Site.

As a result of the research carried out by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Dachau archives, it was found that soldiers of Azerbaijani origin were imprisoned there, and their names, dates and places of birth were also identified.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Germany, Nasimi Aghayev, where he delivered a speech about the great contribution of Azerbaijan to the victory over fascism.

Then, Albert Knoll, head of the staff office of the Memorial Site, Hanns-Eberhard Schleyer, chairman of the board of the German-Azerbaijani Forum and Avigdor Bergauz, the rabbi of Munich, also took the floor. Their speeches emphasized the importance of educating current and future generations about the crimes committed in Dachau and, in this sense, of maintaining the memory of Azerbaijani prisoners.
